Love being at a university? Not sure you want to be a professor? There are many positions for PhDs in colleges and universities, beyond the faculty path. This event will introduce you to the wide range of roles and offices that allow you to continue to engage in education and research, work with students and faculty, and apply the skills and knowledge you acquired in grad school. Staff with doctoral degrees can be found throughout Stanford as well as at many other universities and colleges.
We will start with a BEAM-staff led workshop (30 minutes) in which you will be learn how to ask questions in an informational interview, practice entering and leaving a conversation in a mixer and be introduced to the Higher Education Administration Directory of over 150 Stanford staff with PhDs who want to talk with you.
The workshop is followed by an informal mixer (90 minutes) where you will be able to talk with Stanford staff about their work at Stanford and their paths to their current career. We are eager to showcase both a diverse range of current administrative roles and offices as well as diverse disciplines of origin. We will use break out rooms to enable you to have several small group conversations with the different staff people who are participating.
