Speaker: Laura Schaefer, Professor of Geological Sciences at Stanford University

In this talk, I will give an overview of my research on differentiation and atmosphere formation on rocky planets. In particular, I will discuss core formation through metal-silicate partitioning, volatile evolution on small bodies and planetesimals, and atmosphere-mantle interactions both during a magma ocean phase and over long geological timescales. I will discuss how such models can be applied to rocky exoplanets and the need for additional geophysical and geochemical modeling of potentially observable and/or habitable exoplanets. I will particularly focus on the new and interesting parameter spaces that exoplanet discoveries have opened in planetary science.
