The job talk is widely considered to be the most crucial part of an academic interview. Candidates do well to prepare their talks with care to make it as clear and compelling as possible. This session offers advice for the writing phase of job talk preparation: what factors to consider when planning your job talk, how to write a coherent storyline, how to use language to connect with the audience and make your research stand out, why you should script your talk, and when to let the script go. You’ll leave the workshop with insights on how to prepare a job talk that committees will remember.
