From Geology to Reserves to Production Outlook: Integrated Approach to Analyze Shale Resources
Shale resources represent an increasing share of the U.S. natural gas and oil production, even in the currently low energy price environment. Our understanding of the resource has continued to improve over time, but new knowledge has also brought new questions and opened further research horizons.
Presenting insights from a 6-year long interdisciplinary study of the major shale plays in the U.S., I will discuss advantages of integrated research connecting geologic, petrophysical, engineering, statistical, and economic characterization of shales. Particular attention will be given to uncertainties, future scenarios, and venues for further research.
