Electricity markets have become a central feature of the modern grid. But these regional markets suffer from systemic inefficiencies due to eligibility criteria that limit the participation of many emerging clean energy technologies. This talk on Thursday, March 11 by Shelley Welton, Associate Professor of Law at the University of South Carolina School of Law, will link market inefficiencies and governance challenges, arguing that the United States’ dominant electricity governance model, in which incumbent industry members collectively establish market rules, is a key impediment to building a cleaner, more efficient electricity system.
