Stanford Earth’s Paul Segall elected to National Academy of Science
Segall’s election brings to 8 the number of Stanford Earth faculty who are members of the National Academies of Science or Engineering.
Geophysicist Paul Segall has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences for his distinguished work regarding earthquakes and volcanic processes, using Global Positioning System (GPS) and radar technology. The 84 new members include 8 other professors from Stanford in medicine, chemistry, psychology, mathematics, biology, and physics. He teaches undergraduate courses in natural hazards, and graduate classes on data science techniques to help understand and predict earthquake and volcano deformation.
