Our Research Groups and a Farm

Faculty and students in the School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences conduct research in areas including our planet's history and future; the energy and resource base that supports society; geologic hazards that impact a growing population; a changing climate and environment; and the challenge of sustainability. Faculty lead a variety of research groups as well as cross-departmental topic area groups. And the Stanford Educational Farm is a resource for soils and  agricultural research.

Earth System Science

Earth System Science works to understand, predict, and respond to human-caused and natural environmental change at local to global scales. To do so, the department investigates the complexity of the global system, including the interactions, synergies, and feedbacks that link the oceans, atmosphere, land surfaces, and freshwater systems.
