Brunch at the Farm

Alumni, faculty, students, and staff gathered for brunch at the O’Donohue Family Stanford Educational Farm on May 21.

The event preceded Stanford + Connects Bay Area, the last in a series of events that brought University President John Hennessy and Stanford faculty to 16 cities around the world.  More than 100 people wandered crop rows, visited the chicken coops, examined the herb drying machine, reconnected with old friends, or toured the farm with student volunteers. 

The six-acre site near the historic Red Barn supports some 200 varieties of vegetables, flowers, herbs, field crops, and fruit. The School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences (Stanford Earth) established the farm as a place for students to test new ideas about the biological, social and environmental aspects of farming, and to learn sustainable agricultural practices. “The founders said there should always be a farm on the Farm when they created the University,” Stanford Earth Dean Pam Matson told the crowd. “And now we have one! Welcome.”
